What is a Grip?

The Art of Light Control & Camera Motion

Welcome to Grip Life, a resource site for the Motion Picture Technicians known as Grips. This site will never be finished, since our craft is ever changing. I started this site with the vision of helping the new guys and I hope that it helps just one person have a better day at work. The first question people have after I mention that I'm a Filmmaker is almost always:
What is a Grip?

Alaska - woot

damn the mosquitoes. LOL No wonder no one shoots up here. Aside from us. Working on a project called Godspeed. It's a good time.

Who do you think should come out on top?

Dollygrippery

Dollygrippery is a great resource for all you Dolly Grips and wannabe Dolly Grips. I fall into the second category, barely. I usually tell people that I'm every kind of Grip, except a Dolly Grip. After checking out Dollygrippery, I think there might be hope. There is a wealth of info on the craft including Tips for New Dolly Grips (My Fav:"Endeavor not to suck"), Wedges or Pads and What's in My Toolbag.
Plus, there's stories about set life, equipment reviews and other tech goodies.

Sorry, I haven't updated in awhile. . .

With the strike going on and Pittsburgh already being a smaller market, I've lost a little steam.
